没顶画廊2017年首展：“思考本质不如消费形状”

没顶画廊将于2017年1月8日推出由陈英、丁力、商亮、徐大卫四位年轻艺术家组成的全新绘画群展“思考本质不如消费形状”，展览将持续至3月5日。

“艺术有对事物本质进行幻想的权利——达尔文。” 展览题目“思考本质不如消费形状”探讨的是艺术带来的想象力与理解事物本质认知之间的丰富关系。“消费”指的是一种积极的文化态度，是主动拥有的态度。“消费形状”既包含了对绘画形式的欣赏、凝视、思考和拥有；更重要的，指的也是艺术家对绘画形式和视觉语言的探索与推进。

展览通过四位艺术家的作品，为观众呈现出年轻一代艺术家对绘画语言的全新探索实践。参展的四位艺术家，呈现出迥异的绘画样貌：陈英的场景的叠加再造、丁力的多元绘画语言、商亮的变异的人体、徐大卫的超自然空间，都展现出艺术家对绘画语言的探索和推新。展览由此提出不同以往的号召——与其思考不如行动——这不是一个封锁的语言闭环，而是一个可以反复演变的开放句式。消费带动思考，思考促生行动，行动再造本质。通过强调“消费形状”带来的积极力量，新的本质、思考方式与行为模式，将会在展览过程中被再次探究。

参展艺术家介绍

陈英 1982年出生于黑龙江省齐齐哈尔市，2010年毕业于中央戏剧学院舞台设计专业，现生活工作于北京。陈英的绘画大都始自现实存在的场景，而随着作品绘制过程中三维空间被不断压缩与弱化，他笔下的画面亦逐渐步入抽象。陈英的创作是一个持续揭示画面偶发变化的过程，在此，平面与空间、现实与抽离之间的微妙切换被艺术家以一种沉思性的视角呈现出来。

丁力 1979年生于上海，2008年毕业于巴黎国立美术学院硕士班，现工作生活于上海。在丁力的绘画中，有一种幽微的空间是经过精致的布局完成的，画面以不同的图层堆叠、不同式样的笔触拼贴，形成一种强烈的绘画性厚度。涂鸦的运用展现出反抗、革新与街头感；同时也是一种被取消与否定的状态，但却更凸显出其自身的存在感。

商亮 1981年生于北京，2004年毕业于中央美术学院油画系，2011年毕业于中央美术学院实验艺术学院，现工作生活于北京。商亮的绘画有时像是截取了某个电影场景，让平面绘画空间中留下了回声与残响。有时又以人物为主——她画面中的人物形象像是符号、图案或代码，这些形象如同艺术家的细胞分裂生殖、断裂、再聚合，透露出一种私密感。

徐大卫 1980年出生于浙江温州，毕业于中国美术学院综合艺术系，现工作生活于上海。徐大卫的绘画表现出自身对神秘与未知世界的关切，通过营造一个奇幻的物理空间将观者带入人与自然的对话系统。艺术家在现实与虚幻的并置中，通过自身对绘画的把控，为观者开辟了一个超然物外的静谧空间，在其中，想象与真实并存，诞生与消亡无限轮回。

MadeIn Gallery is pleased to present Form Consumption Over Substance Reflection, an exhibition of new paintings by Chen Ying, Ding Li, Shang Liang and Xu Dawei, opening on January 8th until March 5th, 2017.

“Art has the power to create an illusion on the substance of things. – Charles Darwin” The title Form Consumption Over Substance Reflection explores the fructuous relations between the imagination brought by the art and the understanding of the substance of things. “Consumption” nowadays represents a certain enthused cultural attitude, a desire for possession. “Form Consumption” embraces admiration, gaze, thought and intention of owning paintings; more important, it refers to the research and development initiated by the artists on forms of painting and visual language.

Through a selection of works by four artists, the exhibition presents the new practice and exploration on painting language of a young generation. Each of them presents different techniques: Chen Ying’s landscapes superimposition and reconstruction, Ding Li’s multi-elemental contextual painting, Shang Liang’s mutative bodies, Xu Dawei’s supernatural spaces, all reflect the artists’ painting language exploration and innovation.

The exhibition therefore constitutes another call: “instead of thinking, once should act”. This isn’t a closed formulation but an open sentence structure that can be reiterated. Consumption stimulates thinking, thinking incites action and action builds substance. Emphasizing on the enthusiasm generated by “form consumption”, the exhibition delves again issues on new substance, reflection and acting.

About the Artists

Chen Ying was born in 1982 in Tsitsihar, Heilongjiang Province of China, majored in Scenography and graduated from the Central Academy of Drama in 2010. He currently lives and works in Beijing. Chen Ying’s paintings mostly originate from real-life scenes. During his creation process, Chen integrates iconic geometric forms within scenes from his everyday life, reconstructing the image. As the three-dimensional space is constantly compressed and altered, the work under his paintbrush gradually becomes abstract. Chen’s practice presents perpetual incidental changes, and a subtle conversion between two and three-dimensional space, ordinary and eternity is revealed through the artist’s meditative perspective.

Ding Li was born in 1979 in Shanghai, and graduated with a MA from the Oil Painting Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Paris, France (École nationale supérieure des Beaux-arts de Paris). He currently lives and works in Shanghai, China. The works of Ding Li manifests a certain faint space that is achieved through a sophisticated layout. The superimposition of images, the variety and juxtaposition of brushstrokes all contribute to create a strong painting-related thickness. The use of graffiti technique reflects a form of rebellion, revolution and street style; it also constitutes a denying attitude but mostly places at the forefront a sense of existence.

Shang Liang was born in Beijing in 1981. She graduated from CAFA with a BA in oil painting in 2004, and from CAFA’s Experimental Art program with an MA in 2011. She currently lives and works in Beijing. Shang Liang's paintings are sometimes extracted from cinematic scenes, producing echoes and reverberations outside of the flat space of the picture plane. Sometimes based on specific characters, her works are unlike traditional portraits, and her characters are instead more like symbols, patterns or codes, which split gradually from a singularity into pluralities and then return back to a singularity. In the artist's subtle oeuvre, these images reflect the artist's concepts of cell division, reproduction, division, and reassembly, revealing a powerful sense of intimacy.

Xu Dawei born in 1980 in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, graduated from the Mixed Media Department from the China Academy of Art, currently lives and works in Shanghai, China. Xu Dawei’s paintings reveal his own perspectives on mystery and the unknown world. Within the juxtaposition between reality and illusion and through the control of his paintings, the artist establishes for the spectators a supernatural peaceful space, in which imagination and reality coexist, while birth and disappearance enter an infinite cycle.
